Lesson on Ruth - Conclusion
Today’s lesson concluded Ruth’s story and the children wove simple baskets and added stalks of wheat:
The base of each basket was a piece of cardboard, and strips of heavy, corded paper were used for the weaving. (Cardstock or construction paper would also work well.) The horizontal strips were stapled to the cardboard along each side before the vertical pieces were woven amongst them.
After the weaving was completed, the vertical strips were stapled to the cardboard and the excess lengths of the strips were trimmed around the edges:
Short lengths of wheat (“gleaned” from the field after the combine had harvested the bulk of the crop) were tucked down inside the basket:
